I have never been one to believe that there was a demon behind every tree, and I am still of that persuasion. You may have heard the phrase, “The Devil made me do it!” and knew the person who said it was just laying the blame for their choices at a demon’s feet. I have been tempted to say to a person or two, “You come out of that demon right now!”
There may not be a demon behind every tree, but there was a demon in the Garden of Eden at the tree of knowledge of good and evil when Eve walked up. In fact, he was the first demon. His names include Lucifer, Satan, the Devil, the Enemy, the Serpent, the Red Dragon, and the Accuser of the brethren. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God the Father described him like this:
“Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so… Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” (Ezekiel 28:14-15)
When God created the Angels, he made them in the heavens as beings of spirit and light. God refers to the angels as the sons of God when he created the earth in Job 38:7,
“Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. …’Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me if you have such insight. Who determined its dimensions? …Who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?'” (Job 38:1-7 GW)
As beings of his inception, they were created by him, through him, and for him. He also created them to have a choice. These are beings who must be in agreement with the word of God to exist, and yet given the ability to choose. How that works I don’t know, but nonetheless, God said Lucifer was perfect until iniquity was found in him. There are many words to describe how an angel in heaven can enter the sin of iniquity, but I do not have time here to go there. Jesus said, “He is a liar and the father of all lies.” Lies are at the root of the spirit of iniquity. As you know, a lie is not always dark and grungy. A lie spins the truth to serve self and self’s ambitions. Lucifer was discontent with his created place as the anointed (he had an anointing) cherub (he had a position of purpose) that covered (he had a position of authority) in the tabernacle in heaven, but he was discontent and wanted more; to be like God (Isaiah 14:14). It was in this state of self promotion that he conceived the slyest lies, for his own good. It was these lies that convinced one-third of the hosts of heaven to follow him. As the statement among humans goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” The attitudes of a discontented heart will open the soul of man to Lucifer’s temptations and demonic torment.
The strategy he used with the angels, he also used at the tree of Knowledge of good and evil, with Eve. And the angels that follow him are still using these same strategies today. They can’t twist your arm and make you do anything, but they can talk to you. If you listen, you will hear a lie. Then you will make up your own mind to act. The choice will always be yours and you will be responsible for action you take, in the physical and spiritual realms.
Just as you have a guardian angel to watch over and protect you, you will also have familiar (family) spirits; demons that travel blood-lines to visit the sins of the fathers to the third and fourth generation. These demons will not usually look like the comic book portrayals, unless it will help them terrify you, but will be disguised as beings that want to “help” you get what you want. The truth is, in this world you will have tribulation, but you are made to be more than a conqueror in Jesus Christ.
“I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage–I have overcome the world.” (John 16:32-33)
The key to the power to conqueror is in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is in a relationship with him that you will receive understanding about the spirit realm and how it works. He will fight hand in hand with you, until you live in complete victory. What you learn will give you a strategy to defeat the fallen demonic hordes behind whatever tree you may find them. Blessings and have fun, you are an over comer!
