I have never been one to believe that there was a demon behind every tree, and I am still of that persuasion, but there are times when I question the possibility of that belief. I have also heard some of my friends say, “The Devil made me do it!” and knew that they were just laying the blame for their choices at the feet of a demon. I also experienced a time or two when I was tempted to say, “You come out of that demon right now, and quit tormenting it!” I have dealt with many demons and they have all had the same purpose; to steal kill and destroy. They will tempt you and take you, if they can.
There may not be a demon behind every tree, but there was a demon in the Garden of Eden, behind the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil, when Eve walked up. In fact he was the first demon. His names include Lucifer, Satan, the Devil, the Enemy, the Serpent, the Great Dragon, and the Accuser of the brethren. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God the Father describes him like this:
Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so… Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. (Ezekiel 28:14-15)
When God made the Angels he made them in the heavens as beings of spirit and light. God refers to them as the sons of God when he spoke to Job.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind…”Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me if you have such insight. Who determined its dimensions? …Who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:1-7 GW)
As beings of his inception, they were created by him, through him, and for him. Yet he created them to have a choice. Although angels must agree with their creator to exist they were given the ability to choose. How that works I don’t know, but nonetheless, God said Lucifer was perfect from the day he was created until iniquity was found in him.
There are many words to describe how an angel in heaven can enter the sin of iniquity and violence fill his heart; but I don’t have time to discuss that revelation in this book. Jesus said,
You are the children of your father, the Devil …there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies. (John 8:44 GNB)
Therefore, lies are at the root of the spirit of iniquity. As you know, a lie is not always dark and grungy. A lie spins the truth to serve self and self’s ambition.
Lucifer was discontent with his created place as the anointed (he was given an anointing) cherub (he was given a position of purpose) that covered (he was given a place of authority) in the tabernacle in heaven, and he wanted more. What more could he want? He declared his desire to be like the one he saw; to be like God. (Isaiah 14:14) What could be better than being like God and have worshippers? All of his focus was for his own advancement, with no regard for what it would cost the angels or the humans who chose to follow him. It was in this state of ostentatious self elevation that he conceived the slyest lies. When an angel chose to follow Lucifer, he lost his eternal place in heaven and the eternal estate given to him by God.
Lucifer was convinced that the best thing for him was to promote himself to be like God by converting angels into his followers and worshippers. This was a very seductive and enticing scheme that stands at the very core of the sin of iniquity. It was in this state of deception that he conjured lies to convince one-third of the hosts of heaven to follow him. As the statement among humans goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” The discounted heart will open the soul of man to Lucifer’s temptations and demonic torment.
The strategy he used with the angels he also used in the Garden of Eden with Eve. And the angels that follow him are still using these same strategies with you today. They can’t twist your arm and make you do anything, but they can talk to you. If you listen, you will hear a lie. Then you will make up your own mind to act. The choice will always be yours and you will be responsible for your action.
Just as you have a guardian angel to watch over and protect you, you will also have familiar (family) spirits; demons that travel blood-lines to visit the sins of the fathers to the third and fourth generation. These demons will not usually look like the comic book portrayals, unless they realize that the monster image will help them terrify you, but they will usually be disguised as beings that want to “help” you get what you want. The truth is, in this world you will have tribulation, but you are made to be more than a conqueror. Take the witness of the Son of God, who said,
These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.’
The key to the power to conqueror is in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus in the New Testament is the fulfillment of Jehovah that was revealed in the Old Testament. When you have a personal relationship with him, you will receive an eternal perspective about the spirit realm and how it works. Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts will fight hand in hand with you until you live in complete peace and victory. will you learn in this book will give you a strategy to defeat the fallen demonic hordes, behind whatever tree you may find them.
