I could sense the tension in his voice as a gentleman asked me a very difficult question. “Why don’t I have a life with God like my friend’s? I don’t have the joy they have. I don’t hear God. I don’t know why it seems like my life is hopeless. I have been going to church since I was young. Can you help me? ” I said, “Yes, can we pray together?” I took his hand “Lord Jesus, my friend is asking some hard questions. Will you answer all of these questions please?” I looked at his 67 year old face. He looked troubled as if he was gun-shy. As if he was saying, “what if this doesn’t work?” I said “Will you pray this prayer and repeat it after me phrase by phrase?” “Yes…” “Lord Jesus, will you show my friend where you are right now?” I waited for a few seconds “What do you see, sense, hear, or feel?” He said “I see God sitting on a throne.” I said “How far away is he from you?” He says with anxiety in his voice “A long ways away. Why is that?” I said “Well, let’s find out.” I asked him to pray with me once again. “Father God, do you want to show me what the distance is between you and me?” As he prayed this prayer after me, he saw a picture of a church building that he remembered from his childhood. He says “I am walking inside. It has stained glass windows. There is no one inside. I am the only one.” I asked “Did you ever believe that the way to God was through the church?” “Yes. That is what I remember being taught.” Then I said, “This is the problem. The church is what is standing between you and a personal relationship with God the Father. The church cannot save anyone, only give the good news. Jesus died for you and gave his life’s blood so that your sins could be forgiven. Jesus is the only one who can save you. Let me show you John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.’” I said “Do you believe the word of God on this?” “Yes!” he yelped. “Then do you want to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus?” With a calm assurance he said, “Yes.” “Please pray after me then, ‘Lord Jesus, I know that I have trusted the church to get me to you.” He repeated… then “And today I renounce any and all trust I have had in the church for my salvation.” “Now, in Jesus name I confess that I am a sinner, that Jesus died for my sin and I receive his finished work to save my soul. Lord Jesus, will you come into my life now? I give my life to you right now in Jesus name. I choose to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit right now in Jesus name.” When I looked up I saw tears streaming down his face. “Can you see the Father God now?” He responded, “Yes, he is right here, right in front of me right now.” I then asked “What do you feel inside now?” Through the tears he said “Like warmth and liquid love flowing all over me. It feels like joy, more joy, and I am so happy.” He has experienced all he has asked for, plus dreams and visions from God. Praise the Lord. The Father wants this for everyone on earth.
Will you help us take this message of power to the nations?
This is the command and promise that the disciples received from Jesus on the Mount of Ascension that is for you and me today… “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
